Benin is the latest African nation to welcome Mary’s Meals.
Primary school feeding in Benin
Mary’s Meals is feeding 430 primary children in Benin, thanks to support from our Mary’s Meals support group in Croatia. The children of Ecole primaire de Hondji will receive a daily meal of potatoes, rice, beans, vegetables and meat, to attract them to the classroom where they can gain a basic education that provides an escape route from poverty.
Benin is located on the West African coast and has a total population of approximately 8 million. It is estimated that nearly 1 million people in the country are food insecure and that more than one third of children under five suffer from chronic malnutrition.
