Previous and current business support
Duncan Bannatyne OBE D.Sc., the highly successful entrepreneur and founder of Bannatyne’s Health Clubs and star of the BBC’s Dragon’s Den, has been a loyal supporter of SIR & Mary’s Meals over the years. His generosity has built two family-style homes for abandoned children – one in Romania and one in Colombia. In 2006 he visited Malawi to see Mary’s Meals in action.
During his visit to Malawi Duncan rolled up his sleeves and joined the volunteers serving Mary’s Meals at an Under 5 Centre on the outskirts of Blantytre. Duncan was so impressed with what he saw that on his return he donated £100, 000 towards the work. “I have travelled to Malawi and I have seen Mary’s Meals in situ. It’s a fantastic and effective organization, which has definitely got the capacity to run projects of size and scale.”
Sir Tom Farmer CBE, the entrepreneur and philanthropist who established the Kwik-Fit tyre and exhaust business, is a generous supporter of Mary’s Meals. He has visited Malawi to see the work first hand. “Mary’s Meals is a project well worth supporting. It is aimed at helping people directly based on a very simple concept that is easy to understand. Mary’s Meals should be supported in every way possible”
Tesco Charity Trust & Mary’s Meals
TESCO Charity Trust is participating in the Sponsor A School scheme. Their grants have enabled the pupils at 5 schools – in Malawi, Kenya, India and Thailand – to receive Mary’s Meals.
“This is a fantastic project. Mary’s Meals does a wonderful job for very poor children every day. It not only addresses the immediate needs of hungry children by giving them a daily meal, it also allows them to receive an education that can provide an escape from poverty for themselves and their communities. We hope our support will help them reach even more children in the future. The Tesco Charity Trust has supported the charity since 2007 with an initial promise to feed 1,715 primary school children in Southern Malawi. In 2008 we made a further donation to feed a further 2,933 children across new projects in India, Kenya, and Thailand.”
Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Corporate and Legal Affairs Director talking about a Tesco supported Mary’s Meals project in Delhi.
“I first heard about Mary’s Meals whilst visiting Malawi and was sure I could not have heard correctly how much it was to feed a child for a year – I knew I had to hear more about this incredible charity. I am so proud to be involved and support in any small way I can. I’ve had wonderful support from the Bank (Lloyds Banking Group) in raising both awareness and funds for the charity with another major event planned for later this year!”
