Operations Manager – Malawi, Africa

Mary’s Meals is a fast-growing international charity, currently providing over 923,500 hungry and impoverished children in five continents with a daily school meal.

We are looking for an Operations Manager for a two year fixed term contract to work in Mary’s Meals Malawi’s school feeding programme, which is currently reaching over 700,000 children with a daily meal in primary school as well as 6,500 orphans and vulnerable children. Mary’s Meals Malawi is part of the global Mary’s Meals movement and is focused on achieving the goal that every child receives a daily meal in their place of education.

Reporting to the Regional Director to support the strategic planning and organisational development in Malawi and involved in setting and managing agreed budgets for the operations team. A hands-on and participative manager, coach and mentor who will lead and develop an internal team to support the following areas: Logistics, warehousing, security, procurement, transport, property management, human resources, ITC, engineering and administration.

You will have previous experience of leading a team, have excellent communication and people skills, and be flexible and capable of working with a multinational country team.  You will need to have analytical and conceptual skills to plan project budgets and be able to exercise initiative and sound judgment to successfully accomplish the requirements of this role.

You will have a strong track record of working at a senior level within an international development organisation, preferably in Africa – and can demonstrate significant experience of leading and managing an operations function.  You will have excellent leadership, people and motivational skills. Operational excellence is essential as is cultural sensitivity and community engagement skills and experience.

We are looking for a highly resilient person who is able to work independently, with excellent communication, organisation, prioritisation and time management skills.

A BA/BSC in a relevant subject (e.g.  Logistics, supply chain management, business administration or any other relevant disciplines) or demonstrable significant experience in a similar role is essential.

Finance Manager – Liberia, Africa

Mary’s Meals International is a fast-growing international charity, currently providing over 923,500 hungry and impoverished children in 5 continents with a daily school meal.

Reporting to the Country Director, you will have a strong track record of field management in a developing country, preferably in Africa

You will manage the financial accounting, reporting and control activities and to ensure they are carried out efficiently, effectively and in line with best practice.

You will be responsible for the maintenance of accurate financial records, for the integrity of the accounting system and for compliance with regulatory requirements with regard to accounting records and reporting.  In addition you will have responsibility for managing the procurement processes and to manage all human resource issues in relation to local staff.

You will be required to demonstrate experience in a similar role in a non-profit organisation and have good computer skills, including familiarity with financial software packages and advanced user level spreadsheets experience.  Knowledge of SAGE50 would be an advantage.

You will have previous experience of leading a team, have excellent communication and people skills, be flexible and capable of working with a multinational country team.  You will need to have analytical and conceptual skills to plan project budgets and able to exercise initiative and sound judgment to successfully accomplish the requirements of this role.

Communications Officer – Malawi, Africa

Mary’s Meals is a fast-growing international charity, currently providing over 923,500 hungry and impoverished children in five continents with a daily school meal.

We are looking for Communications Officer for a two year fixed term contract to work in Mary’s Meals Malawi’s school feeding programme, which is currently reaching over 700,000 children with a daily meal in primary school as well as 6,500 orphans and vulnerable children. Mary’s Meals Malawi is part of the global Mary’s Meals movement and is focused on achieving the goal that every child receives a daily meal in their place of education.

The Communications Officer is part of the International Communications Team and also works with staff in Malawi and Zambia and other directorates to successfully deliver a wide range of communications content, activities and projects aimed raising awareness of the programmes in Malawi and Zambia. This will be through the provision of a flow of news, stories, case studies and information that enables Mary’s Meals to raise awareness and fundraise globally.

You will also have responsibility for the Sponsor a School campaign in Malawi/Zambia and to promote and administer the campaign. You will be required to raise awareness about the work of Mary’s Meals and, occasionally, doing public presentations.

Reporting to the Content Development Manager and the Regional Director for Malawi/Zambia, you will apply your considerable creative abilities and strong aptitude for communications to share the inspiring message of Mary’s Meals throughout the world.

To support the organisation in raising awareness of the simple approach of Mary’s Meals in lifting children in the developing world out of poverty, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the charity’s in-country communications and supporting campaigns.

A person who can build strong relationships with in-country local media and network with established international groups as the organisation continues to expand. A self-motivated individual who is highly resilient, capable of working independently, with excellent communication, organisation, prioritisation and time management skills is essential.  Degree qualified or equivalent level professional experience with experience of journalism and/or communications is essential.
