Chartwells - Mary's Meal's Initiative

Young children enjoying their Mary's Meal

Chartwells, the UKs premier school meals provider are delighted to have teamed up with Mary’s Meals, for an exciting school meal initiative aimed at raising awareness of factors relating to the impact of nutrition and healthy eating on children’s ability to learn, while, at the same time offering learning opportunities about the challenges faced by children in the developing world and indeed the opportunity to help Mary’s Meals feed some of the world’s poorest children at Chimvu and Goliati Primary schools in Malawi.

Chartwells have already committed to build two Mary’s Meals feeding kitchens/shelters in Malawi.  One at Chimvu Primary School, which has 1513 pupils and the other at Goliati Primary School, which has 1646 pupils. Our objective is to generate sufficient School meal uptake in the UK to provide meals for the 3,159 children in our Sponsored Schools.

The Initiative It’s very simple; for every school meal purchased/provided at your school we will award points, which will be converted into Meals for some of the world’s poorest children. There is no direct cost to either the pupils or the school.

How it works: Through assemblies and subject lessons, pupils are given the opportunity to learn about the lives and daily challenges faced by the children supported by the charity and to compare with their own lives and their access to food and education. We believe children will come to develop empathy for and a desire to help these children and will choose to take a school meal in the knowledge that they will be directly helping to feed some of the world’s poorest children,

To help you make your school community aware, we have prepared some support materials
