Secondary resources
SECONDARY
Study of the lives of the children we support can be a rich context for delivering learning across a number of Secondary subjects. For example, articles for close reading in English, themes for RME, Geography, History, Modern Studies and Global Citizenship. African culture and food can provide rich stimulus for Music, Art and Home Economics. A Mary’s Meal fundraising and/or Backpack campaigns can provide ideal opportunities for Interdepartmental learning and provide a platform to bring the schools shared values to life.
By forming Mary’s Meals committees and giving young people the responsibility to run fundraising and awareness projects, they can develop communication, teamwork, and presentation skills. It also builds their own confidence and creates a sense of achievement by seeing the real difference that their work makes to the lives of others.
Please find Lesson Plans, ideas and other resources and information which we hope you find helpful. We would like to thank the schools and teachers who have contributed to date.
“Within our curriculum we actively promote the values which underpin our school: values such as love, justice and compassion. Across a wide range of subjects young people develop their awareness of the cultures and of the struggle to survive experienced by so many in the developing world. Working with Mary’s Meals has provided us not only with a rich context for learning but also the opportunity to put our values into action through involvement in their Backpack appeal, World Porridge Day and other fundraising campaigns to support feeding for some of the world’s poorest children”
