The Raffle Team celebrate another successful year
Every year Mary’s Meals organises an Annual Raffle, with ticket-selling starting in churches the week after Easter Sunday and finishing mid-November, soon after which the Draw is made. The Raffle Team, which takes on the work of selling tickets and helping spread the word about the life-changing work of Mary’s Meals, is made up of very ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
For example, last year the Raffle generated the astonishing sum of £160,000 – a fantastic feat given the current economic climate. This year, if we are fortunate enough to have raised a total of £68,200 or more come November 2012, the Raffle will have raised over £1,000,000 in total since it began 10 years ago.
Can you help us achieve that goal of reaching £1 million? There are no special skills or degrees required. All we look for is your time and your love for the extremely poor and hungry children that benefit from Mary’s Meals around the world.
You cannot teach a person how to love, since we only learn to love by reaching out to others – and the ethos of Mary’s Meals is to reach out to the most vulnerable, to those who are suffering, to those who hunger and thirst, to those who have no clothing, and to those suffering the effects of extreme poverty.
At various times throughout the history of the Raffle, it has been said to many of our Raffle Team members that often great joy is experienced by donors as the words of St Francis’ prayer come alive: “It is in giving that we receive”. Like the people who give money to Mary’s Meals through this Annual Draw, the Raffle Team members themselves receive an abundance of peace and joy in return for helping with the running of the Raffle.
Why not join us at weekends, helping deliver hope to others? The Raffle Team is not a closed shop. There is no age limit – you may be too young to sell the Raffle tickets themselves, but you can always assist us in handing out copies of the Mary’s Meals Magazine, and you are never ever too old to sell the Raffle tickets!
