Across the UK, you helped to Feed Our Future!

Last year, Mary’s Meals launched its biggest ever campaign – Feed Our Future. During the campaign, the UK government matched every donation, pound for pound, and our wonderful supporters really made the most of the opportunity, raising £5m for our work!

Support for the campaign was amazing, right across the UK. From the Shetland Isles to Penzance, we celebrate some of the little acts of kindness that helped to Feed Our Future

Shetland Isles, Scotland

Mossbank Primary School in Scotland’s most northerly region – the Shetland Isles – got on board with Feed Our Future by organising a school piggy bank. Three pupils, Sadie Bruce (Primary 5), Heather Freshwater (Primary 5) and Clair Smith (Primary 4) encouraged fellow classmates, friends and family to donate their spare change to Mary’s Meals.

The school raised a fantastic £25 for Mary’s Meals – enough to feed two children for a whole school year! Head teacher, Mrs. Brown, said: “Mary’s Meals is perfect for our little school. Fundraising for less advantaged children is something Mossbank’s pupils take very seriously and we like to help in whatever way we can.”

Edinburgh, Scotland

Mary’s Meals has a strong presence in Scotland’s capital city. During Feed Our Future, Edinburgh resident Shelagh tapped into the city’s Christmas spirit, offering gift wrapping services in St James Shopping centre for a small donation to Mary’s Meals.

Shelagh also organised a pop up restaurant in her home, entertaining guests in exchange for a gift to Mary’s Meals. Through her fundraising activities, Shelagh managed to bring in over £3,600 for Mary’s Meals, which will feed 295 children with Mary’s Meals for a whole school year!

County Tyrone, Northern Island

We are very fortunate to have a dedicated network of supporters across Northern Ireland. One incredibly active Mary’s Meals group in Coalisland, County Tyrone organised toy sales, collections, pub quizzes and Mary’s Meals-themed days to bring in a staggering £19,000 during Feed Our Future!

Jackie O’Neill, from the Mary’s Meals ‘Meitheal’ Support Community, Coalisland, explained that the group were inspired by the simplicity of Mary’s Meals’ vision. He said: “I saw Child 31 [a short film about Mary’s Meals’ work] and I was blown away.”

“The idea behind Mary’s Meals isn’t complicated. Mary’s Meals asks a child if they’re hungry and feeds them. It’s that simple.”

Lancashire, England

We love our supporters in the north west of England! One Lancashire college held fundraising events across their Leyland and Chorley campuses to donate a fantastic £15,523.20 to Mary’s Meals’ Feed Our Future campaign.

Students and staff at Runshaw College placed collection buckets at open events, organised cake sales, raffles, dress down days and Christmas markets to raise the impressive amount.

Angela Mitchell, a member of staff in the college, said: “Mary’s Meals was chosen to be our college charity because it is a simple idea – by providing chronically hungry children with one meal every school day, the children are encouraged to get an education.”

Powys, Wales

We’re so grateful to all our supporters who are working hard to spread the word about Mary’s Meals in Wales. Two impressive fundraisers from Powys, Jan Rees and Geraldine Jones, made craft items such as scarves, cards, and knitted gifts containing lavender from their gardens to raise more than £5,000 for Feed Our Future.

Jan said: “We thought Mary’s Meals was such a brilliant idea – to educate and feed children at the same time.”

“The whole concept of Mary’s Meals is brilliant – it’s so simple and effective. They’ve really hit on a good thing.”

Penzance, England

We are so proud of our supporters all the way down in the most south westerly part of the UK - Cornwall! Elizabeth and Anthony King, from Penzance, have given monthly donations to Mary’s Meals since 2009. Regular support of this kind is incredibly valuable to Mary’s Meals, allowing us to plan our work effectively and reach hungry children in schools where the need is greatest.

Elizabeth said: “Inside our hearts we know that Mary’s Meals is doing wonderful work. We found out about Mary’s Meals from our guide during a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. We decided that it was the charity for us.”

“We know that our donations are going to where they are supposed to be going and the story of Mary’s Meals is inspiring and uplifting. As long as it continues, we will always support Mary’s Meals.”

Thank you to everyone who donated their time, money, skills, or prayers to Mary’s Meals during Feed Our Future! Your support was truly astounding and will help us to reach hundreds of thousands of hungry children with a daily meal in school. THANK YOU!
