People’s Postcode Lottery players support Mary’s Meals

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery provide life-changing school meals for children living in Africa.

Thanks to players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, impoverished children like Happiness enjoy a life-changing meal every school day.

Happiness, who is from the rural Tsholotsho District of Zimbabwe, looks forward to attending school where she receives Mary’s Meals.

“I like everything happening in my school,” she says with a smile.

“My future depends on my education. My favourite subject is English, although I learn all subjects. Getting a meal helps us a lot because we can concentrate in class.”

Happiness and her younger siblings live with their elderly grandparents. Her parents moved to South Africa in search of work.

They send the family money when they can, but food is not plentiful at home, so the promise of a nutritious school meal makes a big difference.

“We normally don’t eat during the day at home because we’re reserving it for the evening meal,” she explains.

“Sometimes it’s hard to concentrate when we are hungry. Mary’s Meals gives us energy and nutrients. It is so helpful to us as pupils.”

Players of the People’s Postcode Lottery are helping us reach thousands of children with a daily meal in school and have raised over £1.2 million to date for Mary’s Meals.

Support from players has also supported the growth of our work, including delivering projects in staff development.
