Southampton Football Club has announced that its first month of fundraising for Mary’s Meals will result in more than £15,000 for the charity.

The premier league side announced Mary’s Meals as its Official International Charity Partner in December last year and set about fundraising through ticket booking fees, match-day magazine sales, and other Saints products.
The club is equally dedicated to fundraising for its own Saints Foundation, which supports a variety of good causes in Southampton and the surrounding area. Almost £20,000 – raised before December 28th last year – will be split evenly between Mary’s Meals and the Saints Foundation.
In addition, the UK government will match more than £5,000 of the donations to Mary’s Meals through the UK Aid Match scheme, meaning the total donated to feed hungry children rises to more than £15,200.
The fundraising work continues as the season goes on, and already on the horizon is a special charity night at St Mary’s Stadium next month.
The event, which will take place on Wednesday 9th March from 7pm GMT, will see guests given the opportunity to watch a first-look preview of a new short film that raises awareness of Mary’s Meals’ work, while also learning more about the Saints Foundation’s role in the community.
Southampton owner Katharina Liebherr and chairman Ralph Krueger are both set to be in attendance, along with Mary’s Meals founder and CEO Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow.
Mary’s Meals currently feeds more than 1.1 million children in their place of education, with a £12.20 donation enough to feed a child for a whole school year.
Tickets for next month's event, priced at £112.20, are on sale now can be purchased by calling the Saints Foundation on +44 2380 711967. Proceeds from the event will be split equally between Mary’s Meals and Saints Foundation.
