Mary’s Meals supporters from all over the UK helped spread joy with their amazing #PorridgeSmiles, as we celebrated World Porridge Day, on Wednesday 10 October, together.

Each year, on World Porridge Day we ask supporters share the message of how much joy one simple bowl of phala (vitamin-enriched porridge) can bring to hungry children, by making a cheery smile in their breakfast oats.

Supporters also held their own fundraising porridge parties, while others texted “OATS18 £2” to 70070 to provide a hungry child with meals, in school for a month.

Once again everyone at Mary’s Meals was overwhelmed by the level of generosity and creativity. From communities and schools to sports stars and celebrities, #PorridgeSmiles were everywhere on social media!

Masterchef winner, and National Chef of Scotland, Gary Maclean helped us launch this year’s #PorridgeSmiles campaign with our friends Stoats.

St Mary’s Primary School, in Leith, held a porridge party and shared their brilliant #PorridgeSmiles with us on social media, while Princethorpe College, in Warwickshire, also fundraised to mark World Porridge Day.

The Gibson family, from Edinburgh held a wonderful porridge party fundraiser, with 50 people attending!

The Carrbridge Artists Studio carved an incredible bear, holding a bowl of porridge, from wood and auctioned the piece at the Carrbridge World Porridge Championships.

Celebrities including Sam Heughan, The Proclaimers, Eddi Reader and Kate Bottley also got involved by supporting World Porridge Day on social media.

Our campaign was also supported by the team at People’s Postcode Lottery’s headquarters in Edinburgh who joined the fun by creating their own porridge smiles.

Callum Aitken, programmes adviser within the charities team at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “Players have given incredible support to Mary’s Meals over the years and we are delighted to be part of this campaign on World Porridge Day which highlights how life-changing a simple meal can be for a hungry child.”

Players of People's Postcode Lottery are a key supporter of Mary’s Meals and a series of awards from its Postcode African Trust has so far allowed the charity to reach thousands of hungry children across Africa, in countries including Malawi, Liberia, Zambia and Kenya.

Thank you to everyone who took part, we can’t wait for next year!
