Young fundraisers’ double quick start

Just days after the launch, we’re already hearing some lovely fundraising stories. Double The Love donations are being matched by three amazing supporters, up to a total of £1.9 million, before 31 December.

Our wonderful supporters are so quick off the mark and it seems children are really taking our match funding campaign, Double The Love, to heart!

Juliet’s love story

Eight-year-old Juliet from St Fillan's Primary School in Renfrewshire launched the Double The Love campaign at her school assembly!

After telling her P3/4 classmates all about Mary’s Meals, Juliet was invited to address the whole school – so she took to the stage with her Mary’s Meals collection mugs, a short video and a PowerPoint presentation.

“It costs less than five Happy Meals to feed a hungry child for a whole year – I think Mary’s Meals are the happiest meals in the world!” said Juliet.

Now Juliet hopes her school friends will pop a few coins into the blue mugs in each classroom, knowing that every donation will be matched and help twice as many children.

“I want to raise £13.90 – then we will feed TWO children for a whole school year!”

Cake and candy clear-out

Paisley schoolgirl Katie Gillies had a sweet idea – and she got her friends together to help.

Along with classmates Elsie, Rebecca, Evie and Olivia, she arranged a cake and candy stall and co-ordinated donations of crispie cakes, cupcakes, popcorn and sweets. The girls opened their stall during break and lunch and couldn’t believe it when all the home-baking and treats sold out!

With match funding, this simple idea raised enough to feed 17 children for a whole school year.

Double celebration

We’ve heard from a remarkable young man who, to celebrate his birthday, decided to send the most amazing gift to the world’s poorest children.

The seven-year-old is asking for donations instead of birthday presents this year, to share the joy of his special day with children who receive Mary’s Meals.

It’s great to see so many people making room for Mary’s Meals and offering their support. Like the church that’s printing a story about Double The Love in its regular bulletin, or the college that’s planning to raise funds at an upcoming Christmas market, or the granny who is giving homemade Christmas gifts and donating the money she’ll save to Double The Love.

These little acts of love are what make our work possible. Thank you!
