Joanna Lumley’s Perfect Porridge

We hope this Perfect Porridge recipe from Joanna Lumley inspires you to throw your own Porridge Party to help us feed more hungry children in school.

Half a mug of best porridge oats

One mug of tap water

Half a mug of almond milk

Half tsp of salt

Toppings of choice to serve

Joanna Lamond Lumley, OBE, FRGS is an English actress, former model, author and activist.

  1. Measure by mugs: take half a mug of best porridge oats, and put them in a pan with one mug of tap water and half a mug of almond milk.
  2. Add half a teaspoon of salt, and put over a lowish heat, stirring with a wooden spoon (or spurtle, if you have one: it’s a tapered stick which looks as though it would be useful for planting tiny bulbs into earth).
  3. After about ten minutes it should be looking pretty nice.  This will serve two people who can add their favourite topping (or none). Mine is runny honey.
  4. Some people eat this superb porridge with salt. As with all food, it’s best to do just as you like.
