Mary's Meals regular giver

Brian Gray, Glasgow

Brian has been giving regularly to Mary's Meals for around three years.

Brian decided to set up a Direct Debit, gifting the cost to feed a child for a whole year, every month. He later generously decided to increase his donation to £30 per month.

The retired bank manager says: "I give because I like the work that Mary's Meals does. Feeding children is important.

“I feel confident knowing that 93 pence of every £1 donated goes directly towards the charity’s activities, so the money that I give makes a real difference. It’s amazing that £15.90 can feed a child for a whole school year.

When asked why he chose to give regularly, he told us: “I prefer to spread the cost out by giving monthly, and I hope to continue to do so for as long as I can afford to.

Mary's Meals regular giver

Stephen Clark, Leeds

Stephen first heard about Mary’s Meals nearly two years ago, over a drink with a friend in the pub.

He says: “Like many others, I take the availability of food for granted. I am always just a few steps away from the fridge or food cupboard. Mary’s Meals reminds me that this isn’t the case for children in countries such as Malawi and Zambia.”

Stephen’s late father grew up in a small mining community in East Leeds and experienced first-hand what hunger felt like.

The university researcher told us: “Dad hoped those days had passed and would always show his concern when he would hear about hunger and poverty in communities across the globe. It is because of Dad that I chose to support Mary’s Meals. My father would be so pleased to know that the work of Mary’s Meals is helping children gain an education and providing them with a ladder out of poverty.”

Along with one-off donations to support specific appeals, Stephen gives on a monthly basis.

He says: “A regular donation helps keep me organised! It is a relief to know that the money is always going to those who need it, providing hope for some of the world’s poorest children.”
