Writing a will is easier than you think

Your precious gift can change lives

Published on

Did you know that by leaving a gift in your will to Mary’s Meals, you can bring hope to future generations of children living in some of the world’s poorest countries?

Writing a will is simpler than you might think. Here, we answer three frequently asked questions about writing a will to help you understand what’s involved.

1. What is a will, and why do I need one?

A will is a legal document that states what you want to happen when you pass away. It is the only way for you to ensure that your wishes are met. It includes important information to help protect your loved ones and ensure that your estate is managed in the way you wish. Without a will, any assets will be divided up following the rules of intestacy, a set of traditional laws that define who gets what – but they may not follow exactly what you want.

2. Can I leave a gift to charity?

Once you have taken care of your loved ones, many people choose to leave a share of, or the remainder of, their estate to charity. Even a small gift to Mary’s Meals – such as leaving 1% of your estate – can make a big difference to some of the world’s poorest children. According to Farewill, around one in three people choose to leave a gift to a charity they feel strongly about. This has an enormous impact, and you can be assured that we will cherish any gift entrusted to us. We are committed to keeping our running costs low to maximise the good we can do with your gift.

3. How much does it cost to write a will?

Writing a will is easier than you might think, and by taking advantage of our partnership with Farewill, the largest will writer in the UK, you can get it done for free. There is absolutely no obligation when using Farewill to leave a gift to Mary’s Meals. However, once you’ve taken care of those closest to you, a gift of any size would one day make a huge difference to the hungry children we feed.
