Update on our work in Lebanon
Tensions across the Middle East continue to escalate, with ongoing airstrikes causing significant damage and disruption.
Tensions across the Middle East continue to escalate, with ongoing airstrikes causing significant damage and disruption. After Iran, Lebanon is among the hardest-hit countries, facing intense bombardments in the south, as well as the capital city Beirut and its southern suburbs.
Under normal circumstances, our school feeding programme – delivered through our local partner, Dorcas – serves daily meals to more than 900 children attending places of education around Beirut. However, because of recent strikes and the high risk of further attacks, public schools nationwide have been closed, and our normal programme has been temporarily paused. We are thankful to report that our colleagues from Dorcas are safe and well.
Throughout our decade-long partnership, Dorcas has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to adapt and respond in times of crisis, including during the 2020 explosion at the Port of Beirut and during the 2024 conflict. Dorcas’ commitment and agility means that, while schools are closed, we are still able to provide vital food to children by distributing take-home rations to those communities around the schools and centres in our programme.
We recognise that this is an incredibly difficult situation for our partner colleagues and for communities across Lebanon. We remain committed to supporting Dorcas as the situation unfolds, and we will provide further updates as they are available.
