Update on our work in Lebanon

Tensions across the Middle East continue to escalate, with ongoing airstrikes causing significant damage and disruption.

Tensions across the Middle East continue to escalate, with ongoing airstrikes causing significant damage and disruption. After Iran, Lebanon is among the hardest-hit countries, facing intense bombardments in the south, as well as the capital city Beirut and its southern suburbs.

Under normal circumstances, our school feeding programme – delivered through our local partner, Dorcas – serves daily meals to more than 900 children attending places of education around Beirut. However, because of recent strikes and the high risk of further attacks, public schools nationwide have been closed, and our school feeding operations are temporarily paused. We are thankful to report that our colleagues from Dorcas are safe and well.

As soon as it is safe to do so and schools can reopen, Dorcas will resume school feeding to ensure children can continue receiving nutritious meals every school day in their place of learning. Dorcas has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to adapt and respond in times of crisis, including during the 2020 explosion at Beirut port.

We recognise that this is an incredibly difficult situation for our partner colleagues and for communities across Lebanon. We remain committed to supporting Dorcas, working closely to determine the best course of action, and we will provide further updates as they are available.
