Lettie – a new Mary's Meals film
In our new film, Lettie tells her story – from a 10-year-old facing hunger, leaving school, and caring for her younger siblings, to a healthy, educated mother providing for her own family. Her story shows how access to food, education, and compassion can transform not just one life – but generations to come.
About Lettie – A Journey of Hope and Transformation
In our new feature film, Lettie, a young girl forced into adulthood shares her story.
At just 10 years old, Lettie had lost her parents, faced severe hunger, and left school to care for her younger siblings.
Today, we meet her again: educated, healthy, and working – a mother able to provide for her own family.
Lettie’s journey is a powerful reminder of what school meals can make possible. Her story shows how access to education, proper nutrition, and the support of others can change the course of a life – and shape generations to come.
About the film – From Child 31 to Lettie
Lettie’s story was first introduced in Child 31, a film that captured her life as a young girl struggling with hunger and the loss of her parents.
In this new feature, Lettie, we revisit her journey:
- How daily school meals helped her stay in school
- How education and community support shaped her future
- The generational impact on her family and others
The Impact of Mary’s Meals – School Meals Change Lives
For over 20 years, Mary’s Meals has been serving daily school meals in Malawi and around the world. Our approach:
- Focus on the most vulnerable children
- Deliver meals at school to improve attendance, concentration, and learning
- Empower communities to run programmes sustainably
Attend a film screening of Lettie
Later in the year we will be hosting a number of events that will feature a film screening of Lettie. It will be a chance to bring friends and family together to celebrate the work of Mary’s Meals.
We are also looking for supporters to host screenings as well, so if you think your church, workplace, local community centre or any other location would be suitable let us know.
