Lettie

Daily meals, lasting change

Lettie – a new Mary's Meals film

In our upcoming film, Lettie tells her story – from a 10-year-old in Malawi facing hunger and forced to leave school to care for her siblings – to a healthy, educated mother providing for her own family. Her story is testament to what compassion can achieve – and how access to food and education can transform not just one life, but generations to come.

Watch the trailer below and let us know if you would like to attend an event to see the film when it is released in the UK in September.

About Lettie – a journey of hope and transformation

In our new feature film, Lettie – a young girl from Malawi forced into adulthood – shares her story.

We first met Lettie at just 10 years old. She had lost both her parents and, facing severe hunger, she had to leave school to care for her younger siblings.

In Lettie, we meet her again today: educated, healthy, and working – a mother able to provide for her own family.

Lettie’s story shows how a simple school meal can unlock a child’s future – how access to education, proper nutrition, and the support of others can change the course of a life and shape generations to come.

About the film – from Child 31 to Lettie

Lettie’s story was first introduced in Child 31, a Mary’s Meals film that captured her life as a young girl struggling with hunger and the loss of her parents.

In this new feature film, Lettie, we hear about her journey since she started receiving Mary’s Meals at school and see:

  • How daily school meals helped her stay in school
  • How education and community support shaped her future
  • The generational impact on her family and others

Attend or host screening of Lettie

Later this year, we’ll be hosting a series of special events featuring screenings of Lettie, an inspiring opportunity to bring friends, family, colleagues and communities together to celebrate the life‑changing work of Mary’s Meals.

We’re also inviting supporters to take the lead by hosting their own screenings. Whether it’s in your workplace with colleagues, your church, a local community centre, or another space you’re connected to, your event could help encourage meaningful conversations and inspire others to get involved..
