Shropshire volunteer group raise more than £6,000 with active challenge
A group of dedicated Mary’s Meals volunteers from Shropshire took on a tough physical challenge in September, raising more than £6,000 to help us feed hungry children.

How Mary’s Meals reaches the most vulnerable children
Our nutritious meals are served to more than 2.4 million children every school day in 17 countries worldwide. No two contexts are the same, but the communities we work with are all carefully selected as places of great need, where factors such as extreme poverty, conflict, and climate-related issues drive up rates of child malnutrition and hinder access to education.

A message from Magnus on Ethiopia
Each gift made toward our Crisis in Ethiopia appeal is already making a tangible difference in children’s lives, having enabled us to grow our programme very rapidly. Instead of providing 24,000 children in Tigray with daily meals – as we were previously – we are now reaching more than 110,000.

Fuelling girls’ futures
It is a shocking thing that around the world, so many girls are missing out on an education that could be their ladder out of poverty. Only 49% of countries have gender parity in terms of primary school attendance and this has wider consequences – for the girls themselves, their families and their communities. An educated girl has far better outcomes in terms of health and her ability to earn a living.

Kind-hearted youngster cycles West Highland Way in 25 hours for hungry children
A young teenager from Edinburgh cycled the famous West Highland Way in just 25 hours to raise funds for hungry children. Cameron Hutchison, 13, and his dad, Colin, 55, took on the challenge on mountain bikes for Mary’s Meals on June 20.

Giving girls in Yemen the chance to dream
Saleha is seven years old and in grade two at school in Yemen – where more than half of the population don’t have enough to eat. The deadly civil war in the Middle Eastern country has been ongoing since 2014 and at least one in four schools in the country have been destroyed, damaged or are no longer in use for education.

Breaking down barriers and empowering girls in Liberia
Isatu lives in Grand Cape Mount County in Liberia, an area not too far from the school she attends. At 16 years old, she is among the oldest in her grade six class and like many other girls from her community, is aware of the ingrained beliefs about gender roles that say girls should wash dishes, cook, clean the house, and wash clothes.

Learning, not working
Mantasha, 12, has had a difficult childhood. Her mother sadly died of tuberculosis when Mantasha was just six-years-old and her father was left disabled and unable to work after he also contracted the same disease. The family soon moved to Delhi because Mantasha’s aunt lives there and her father was hoping she could help to support his children.
